Dmitry Kotov
Dmitry is one of the true pillars of Black Hat Tattoo Dublin. A Ukrainian artist with a Masters in graphic design, he brings around ten years of experience in the tattoo industry, and he's one of the longest standing, most loyal members of the shop.
His technique stands out right away: a delicate line, real mastery of linework, dotwork and whipshading, paired with a sketch style that gives his pieces a texture that almost looks hand drawn. He particularly shines in floral work and micro realism, two areas that demand real precision, and he's just as comfortable handling cover ups, where an existing piece has to be reimagined without losing coherence.
What really drives his work is composition. Dmitry thinks through each piece in relation to the body that will carry it, always chasing harmony between the design and the client's shape, rather than dropping a motif on without thought.
In the chair, what people remember most is how calm he is. Dmitry has that gentle, reassuring presence that puts you at ease naturally, even on longer sessions or emotionally sensitive projects like a cover up.
